Abstract
The present article demonstrates the role and functions of the constitutional control in different countries, including Bulgaria. Control of constitutionality of laws exists in various forms in contemporary world. Constitutional courts act as harmonizers of national constitutional
and supranational values, principles and norms and resolving conflicts between national and supranational legal orders and institutions. Moreover, constitutional courts act as ultimate judicial safeguard of fundamental human rights and as border guards containing the state
institutions within the constitutional limits of their powers.
